Bio

Suzanne oversees the wide variety of programs and projects under the education umbrella at the Wells Reserve. These include public programs for preK-gray audiences, school programs for grades K-12, community group visits, exhibits and interpretive trail signs, Discovery Books and backpacks for use on the Reserve's seven miles of trails, special events, and  teacher workshops.

Suzanne has lived in Maine since 1996. Prior to the Reserve, she worked in Portland as the Science Coordinator at the Children's Museum of Maine. Suzanne also led families and school groups on hikes and cruises at Acadia National Park as an interpretation/environmental education park ranger. For a couple of winter seasons, Suzanne traveled cross-country to work at an environmental education center on Puget Sound in Washington.

Suzanne received her Master's degree from Audubon Expedition Institute's Ecological Teaching and Learning Program at Lesley University. Her undergraduate work was in environmental science and biology at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.

Suzanne enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking, nature journaling, and knitting. She lives in Portland with her husband and chihuahua pug.

What is your choice of mascot for Wells Reserve and why?

The American Eel because of its amazing life history and migration feats.

What is your favorite place at Wells Reserve?

Different seasons bring new favorites. In the summer, a lunchtime swim at Laudholm Beach can't be beat. In the fall, the fields beckon with views of the forest's colorful palette. In the winter, it's quiet walks and skis through the woods. Springtime brings strolls to the marsh for cool breezes.
