Bio

After graduating from Colby College in May of 2009 with a B.A. in Biology with a concentration in Environmental Science and a minor in Environmental Education, Michelle joined the Reserve staff in June 2009. She coordinates and leads the Just for Kids and Junior Researchers programs during the summer. During the non-summer months, she is completing the last booklet in the Discovery Book Program, called Time Travels, and coordinating programs during February and April school vacations.

In the second year of her fellowship, Michelle will continue to coordinate the Just for Kids and Junior Researchers programs during the summer season with the addition of a Preschool Explorers program. In the off-season, she will continue to lead programs during school vacation weeks and be creating an Estuaries Kit for use in the classroom.

What is your choice of mascot for Wells Reserve and why?

While I am a bit partial to the wild turkey since it is the mascot for the Time Travels Discovery book, I would have to say the mummichog: the epitome of adaptability and a noble representative of our marsh critters.

What is your favorite place at Wells Reserve?

The less-often visited Farley Trail Overlook (the one farther from the ocean), which has a propped up bench in order to sit and enjoy peaking through the treeline at the Little River. I have seen a great-horned owl twice while in that area, and I easily find peace and self-reflection while taking in the scene.
