YES!WELLS, MAINE -- On Thursday, July 22 at 7 pm, come to the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve to learn about loggerhead, leatherback, Kemp's ridley, hawksbill, and green sea turtles. National Marine Fisheries Service biologist Carrie Upite will talk about all the kinds of sea turtles found in the Gulf of Maine. The Wells Reserve is at 342 Laudholm Farm Road in Wells, just off Routes 1 and 9 near the Kennebunk line. The talk is free, but donations are accepted. Please bring a mug for free organic coffee or tea. FMI: (207) 646-1555. Five sea turtle species can be found in Gulf of Maine, though they rarely approach the coast. Upite, an endangered species biologist, will explain sea turtle biology, distribution, and life history. She will also describe the threats facing sea turtles and what is being done to protect them. The Wells NERR lecture series continues on the fourth Thursday of every month through October. Next month: Turtles of Freshwater Wetlands.
