Join Jennifer Vashon, State Black Bear and Canada Lynx Biologist, to explore the life history of black bears, their status and distribution in Maine, and the States management of bears. Jennifer will also share how we can learn to prevent conflicts with black bears and what to do if we encounter a bear.

About the Presenter
Jennifer Vashon grew up on the coast of Maine, and graduated from the University of Maine with a BS in Wildlife Management and Virginia Tech with a MS in Wildlife Science. Her masters thesis involved survival and movements of an exploited black bear population in Virginia. She has been the State Black Bear and Lynx Biologist since 2003. Prior to 2003, she worked on a variety of field projects, including northern spotted owls in Oregon; black bears in Maine, Pennsylvania, and Virginia; northern flying squirrels in Acadia National Park; and lynx in northern Maine.
