When Betsy Wish moved to Kittery 18 years ago, she was intrigued with the local lobstermen. She was photographing them from her kayak while they referred to her as a “speed bump.” She decided to put a few cookies in a ziplock bag along with the photos she had taken of them hauling traps, in hopes of winning them over.

Any time she talks to these lobstermen, she learns something about the industry and its challenges. She has found that these folks who grew up in a town where lobstering is much more than a job, but a way of life, might appear to be curmudgeons. Like the lobsters they find in their traps, they are hard on the outside, but inside…they are good people with big hearts.
