Ocean Frontiers III: Leaders in Ocean Stewardship & the New Blue Economy

Ocean Frontiers III: Leaders in Ocean Stewardship & the New Blue Economy is a truly unique and hopeful ocean film that explores the intersection of national security, marine commerce and conservation. Savor rare underwater footage of stunning marine life along the coast from Virginia to Maine and hear from a range of people who are leading the way to a sustainable and thriving ocean. Wells Harbormaster Chris Mayo will lead a discussion following the 55-minute film. Suggested donation is $2 per person. Please meet in Mather Auditorium and feel free to bring your bag lunch to eat during the presentation.  

Chris Mayo was born into a nautical family in Lyman, Maine in 1981. Both of his grandfathers were mariners, with one being a merchant marine in WWII and the other a well-known naval architect. His father was a commercial fisherman, and Chris followed suit.  After moving to a small island off Portland while in high school, Chris fished with his father and eventually on his own after high school before going to work on NOAA fisheries research vessels out of both Woods Hole, Massachusetts and various Alaskan ports. He became the chief boatswain of the NOAA ship John N. Cobb out of Juneau, Alaska, but changed course and attended Maine Maritime Academy, where he graduated with a degree in marine transportation in 2010. He became the harbormaster in Wells, Maine in 2010 and has been an active member in the Maine Harbormasters Association, as well as various committees and groups pertaining to the ocean, ecology, and conservation.
