This demonstration will bring a better understanding of how stone and bone tools were produced, used and evolved over time. There will be an opportunity for each participant to try their hand at this ancient technique for producing tools that were necessary for surviving within Maines diverse environment.
Chris Sockalexis (Penobscot) is the Penobscot Nation Tribal Historic Preservation Officer. He is also one of the lead singers for the powwow drum group, The RezDogs, who travel throughout the Northeast singing at powwows, festivals and gatherings. Chris is currently working on his Masters degree in Archaeology at the University of Maines Climate Change Institute focusing on Archaic Ceremonial Burials in the Gulf of Maine. Chris is an avid paddler and loves being out on the rivers and lakes that his ancestors have traveled since time immemorial.
