The American lobster (Homarus americanus) is the single most valuable fishery in Maine and is intimately linked to the social, economic, and ecological fabric of the Gulf of Maine. However, changing conditions in the Gulf of Maine due to environmental drivers from climate change have been reshaping the biological and physical attributes of our oceanic, coastal, and estuarine waters and in turn, have likely altered aspects of lobster biology for decades to come. The Wells Reserve has been engaged in a variety of lobster projects aimed at better understanding the impacts of a changing Gulf of Maine ecosystem on the reproduction, behavior, and physiology of lobsters. Join researchers Drs. Ben Gutzler and Jason Goldstein as they provide updates to a variety of lobster-related projects and happenings at the Wells Reserve and beyond and help to answer questions about Maines king of crustaceans.

This project is funded through the American Lobster Initiative (National Sea Grant Program).
