Why do leaves change color in the fall? Why do some leaves turn earlier than others? What are the strategies that trees use for staying alive and protecting their buds through the winter months? How do they prepare for cold temperatures, desiccating winds, and drought-like conditions? Discover the answers to these questions and more during this guided hike through the autumn woods.
This program will be led by experienced Reserve docent, naturalist and nature writer Eileen Willard, who spent 15 years as a University of New Hampshire lab instructor in dendrology (study of trees) and in 2022 completed her Maine Master Naturalist certification. Ages 12 and up.
