Last week, we installed a brand-new weather station here on our Laudholm campus, with a little help from our friends! The station is part of the National Weather Service network, station ID WEXM1.
The new Campbell Scientific CR1000X replaces the old station installed back in 2006 by Jeremy Miller, our long-time manager of the System Wide Monitoring Program (SWMP).
"I know I've been here a long time when I start out-lasting our long-term monitoring equipment!" Jeremy quips.
Our partners and friends at the Wells Fire Department were gracious enough to come help get Jeremy, and his brand new wind sensor, all the way to the top of the station. Much to Jeremy's delight, a quick trip up, up, UP, fully extended in the ladder basket, got the job done. What a view from up there!
The Reserve has been working with the Wells Fire Department and York County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) for almost two decades now, providing real-time water level and weather data to assist in storm recovery and rescue efforts here in Wells.
The new station was purchased with support from NOAA and represents an investment in a more robust and reliable system, ensuring that important data is captured and made available to the various people and programs that put it to use. One such example is the Wells Tide Tracker. Check it out!
