The reserve's "Island in the Field" apple took gold for Best Quality Cider at the 4th annual Wild and Seedling Pomological Exhibition in November 2023.

Paul Dest is honored for working to conserve and sustain the Gulf of Maine for more than 30 years.

Chris Feurt, director of the Coastal Training Program, received the Margaret A. Davidson Award for Stewardship from the Coastal & Estuarine Research Federation in November 2021.

Half our staff and some key volunteers attended this year's annual meeting of reserves. They brought home renewed energy, fond memories, and three awards.

Sue Bickford is honored with the NERRS Impact Award, while Jeremy Miller is recognized with the Technical Assistance Award.

The Reserve was recognized at The Wildlife Society's 25th annual conference, held in Cleveland last October.

Kennebunk resident Paul Dest, for 16 years the director of the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, was honored on December 12 with the 2016 Dr. Nancy Foster Habitat Conservation Award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Dest was presented with his award at the National Summit on Coastal and Estuarine Restoration and 25^th meeting of The Coastal Society in New Orleans.

All volunteers are honestly appreciated, but some merit special attention for their unusual dedication. Each year, Laudholm Trust and Wells Reserve staff nominate certain volunteers for recognition. Here is our history of selections.

Dr. Christine B. Feurt, coordinator of the Coastal Training Program at the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), was presented with the 2012 NERR System and NERR Association Award at the annual NERRS/NERRA meeting held in West Virginia in November. The award is given annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the reserve system.

We held our annual meeting, volunteer recognition, and holiday party together this year, packing Mather Auditorium with good stories, tasty treats, and merriment on December 5. Here are just a few of the highlights and people who took part&
